Nondus Wakefield Obituary

HOMER - Nondus Lavon Wakefield reunited with her husband, Dale, shortly after noon on May 23, 2025. Four years and three months is a long time to wait to hold your love close again. Nondus was in her own home and began her journey with peaceful calm - no one could ask for more.

She was born in rural Homer on Feb. 10, 1928, to Clell O.K. Clutter and Zoe Labitha (Crane) Clutter. She was welcomed, both then and now, by her beloved sister, Helen Marie Clutter Goff.

She and Dale were married on July 28, 1945, in Madison, Wis. Nondus and Dale had four children, Michael Scott Wakefield (who passed away in November of 2024), Connie Lavon (Steve) Loyet of Venice Fla., David Dale Wakefield of Homer and Debra Kay (Don) Happ of Homer. They were blessed with six grandchildren, Craig (Sarah), Keith (Amanda), Scott, Andrew (Jen), Diane (Matt, Nondus' favorite sparring partner) and Darren (Caryn), who then blessed them with 10 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Cole, Mila, Bryson, Ezra, Braelynn, Brystol, Maverick, Ford and Joseph.

Nondus was a true "Jane of all trades". She graduated high school and also beauty school. She worked at Motorola during World War II, while Dale served in the Navy. She made her own wedding dress! She loved to paint and she did beautiful, amazing work! She loved puzzles! She loved learning! She took classes in everything from computers to painting, from metal work to jewelry work. She could do anything she put her mind to! She loved birds, flowers and critters. Her hummingbirds, squirrels and birds were well fed. Nondus enjoyed watching them every day. She enjoyed new technology as it came out. Loved Facebook (to keep in touch with people) and her computer! The very computer on which she and Dale wrote their book! Even though it wasn't quite finished when Dale passed, she took pride in finishing their work and getting it published.

She and Dale were founding members of the Homer Historical Society. They loved buying and selling antiques - and loved travel; when they could combine those two things, they were very happy. They loved going places and doing so many things - camping, boating, gardening, cooking - but what mattered to them was being together.

Nondus was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her sister, Helen; her son, Mike; great-granddaughter, Braelynn; and daughters-in-law, Darlene and Barbara.

At Nondus' request there will be no services held. She will be cremated and then her ashes will be combined with Dale's.

Donations may be made to Homer Fire Department in Nondus' honor.

The last few years, I remember taking mom (Patty Tyler) to Lupitas and we enjoyed seeing/greeting Dave and Nondus there on Sundays after church. Condolences to her family.
