DORIS ELIZABETH TOWNSEND Doris Elizabeth Townsend of Shawnee Oklahoma passed away on July 10, 2024 in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 89. Doris was born in July 1934 to Moses and Frances in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma. She was a Shawnee High School graduate in 1952 and married her high school sweetheart, John Townsend, Sr., in 1953 in Okemah, Oklahoma. Doris was a homemaker. While her four children were young, she was active in their school activities: serving in the PTA, home room mother, and band chaperone. She was life-long member of the Girl Scouts of America serving as troop leaders to her three daughters and helped with her son's Boy Scout Troop. Doris worked at Castleberry High School in River Oaks, Texas while her four children were in school. She also worked for and retired from Southwestern Bell in Fort Worth, Texas. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Townsend, parents, 2 brothers, Lloyd and Chester, 3 sisters, Hazel, Louise and Cathy. Doris is survived by her children, Liz and Barry of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Ramah and Al of Shawnee, Debbie and Don of Kingston, Michigan, and John Jr. and Suzanne Townsend of North, Virginia; 9 grandchildren, 12 grand-children and many friends and extended family. Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Don Rominger officiating. Burial will follow at Vista Cemetery in Asher, Oklahoma under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the Pottawatomie County Historical Society & Museum or the Folds of Honor.
