Ronnie I'm sorry to hear of Chucks passing
You are in my thoughts and prayers for the family

Ronnie already knows what I am about to tell you, but I also wanted others in Chuck’s family to hear my story. My name is Patricia Morton, and I’m the Director of Elections in Appomattox.
It’s not often that someone comes along and changes your life, but Chuck did that for me. I first met him when I became and Officer of Election in 2016. Fast forward to March 3rd, 2020, when I was working the Presidential Primary.
Chuck told me that my predecessor, Sabrina Smith, was retiring, and asked “why don’t you apply for the position?” I laughed in his face. I said “Chuck, I’ve been retired for 16-1/2 years!” Chuck was undaunted.
He’d planted a seed in my brain. That seed grew like Jack’s beanstalk. I found I was thinking about the position in the wee hours of the morning, and kept thinking how interesting it might be.
Here I am, five years later, thankful that Chuck planted that seed. You see, I hadn’t been looking for a job, much less another career.
He helped me grow into a position I love, making friends I otherwise would never have known, giving me something to work at that I’m passionate about, while working in an incredible, resourceful community of dedicated elections workers.
I will always be extremely grateful to this wonderful man. His cheerful demeanor, whistling, and little dances are sorely missed.
Rest in peace, dear friend. You've earned it.

Chuck, I remember your sense of humor most of all. We could all be having "one of those days" and you'd pipe up with something to make me laugh and laugh. It is with love that I remember you! Diane :)
