Thomas Davis Obituary

Thomas G. Davis Sr, age 86, of Brookville, Indiana died Tuesday morning, July 29, 2025 at his residence in Brookville surrounded by his family.

Born January 4, 1939 in Hamilton, Ohio he was the son of the late Vernon E. & Ida (Helton) Davis. On June 8, 1957, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Baker, and she survives.

Tom was the youngest man ever elected Sheriff in the State of Indiana in 1967, serving two terms as Sheriff of Franklin County, and following that he was the only person ever to serve as President of the Indiana Sheriff's Association while not a sitting Sheriff. He was instrumental in creating the former Franklin County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol.

He was also a jack of all trades, having been a Pilot, Auctioneer, and owned and operated Davis Real Estate, and Davis Auto Sales for many years in Brookville.

In his leisure time he enjoyed motorcycling. He and Marilyn had visited much of the country on their motorcycles. Classic cars, and mushroom hunting were also favorite hobbies. He never met a stranger, and was a genuine, caring, giving person.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Lakeside Cruisers Car Club, as well as a Former Member and Past President of the Indiana Sheriff's Association.

Besides Marilyn, his loving wife of over 68 years, survivors include a daughter, Jane (Tim) Lainhart; a son, Thomas G. (Joyce) Davis II all of Brookville, Indiana; grandchildren, Kevin Pflum, Thomas G. (Tammy) Davis III, Ashley (Allen) Bell, Aaren (Ryan) Kerr, Chuckie Davis; nine great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Kenna, Kaylee, Kayden, Karlee, Elizabeth, Thomas IV, Laila, Hannah; four great-grandchildren, Kaisen, Keaton, Rowan, Cyrus; as well as his beloved canine companion, Iggy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother & father-in-law, Leonard F. & Norma L. Baker, a nephew, Kyle J. Kerr, as well as a brother-in-law, Rick Baker.

Family & friends may visit from 4 until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 1, 2025 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.

Rev. Rob Edwards will officiate the Funeral Service on Saturday, August 2, 2025, 10:00 A.M., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sims Cemetery in New Fairfield, where Kevin Pflum, Tom Davis III, Chuck Davis, Dakota Roberts, Ryan Kerr, Allen Bell, George Blevins, Kayden Kerr and Tom Davis IV will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kyle J. Kerr Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Franklin County Community Foundation.
