Roger Ketzler Obituary

It is with great sadness that we communicate the unexpected passing away at the young age of 40 of our beloved son, brother, father and friend, Roger Ketzler Jr., on Jan. 25, 2025.

Roger was known for his light, carefree attitude and his enthusiasm for games, whether it was organizing game nights with his family or playing video games. Born on July 18, 1984, in Anchorage, Alaska, he shared a birthday with his mother, Gloria Demientieff-Ketzler. The family moved out of state for a period, during which they engaged in camping and fishing trips.

Roger later lived in St. George, Alaska, with his stepfather, Boris Merculief, his sister, Raven, and his mother, where he made many friends. At age 10, Roger chose to move back to Anchorage to live with his father, Roger Sr., where he introduced him to video games.

After completing high school, Roger worked with Americore and developed valuable work skills. He then began his career in the pizza-making business, working at Papa John's, Round Table, and Uncle Joe's over many years. During this time, he met Crystal, the mother of his children, and they were together for 18 years. Later, Roger pursued training at SCF''s Arrigahhouse and became involved in healing work.

Roger's main focus in life was his children, Roger III and Martha (Maddie), along with his stepdaughter, Selah Rose, and her daughter, Andromeda. In recent years, he took care of his disabled stepfather, Boris. In 2023, Roger traveled to the Philippines, a trip made possible by his father, Roger Sr.

Roger is remembered by his family and friends, particularly his two children.

There will be services held in Nenana, Alaska, on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, with viewing at noon and services at 1 p.m. followed by burial at the Nenana Native Cemetery. A potlatch will begin at 6 p.m. at the Chief Mitch Demientieff Tribal Hall.

Condolences to the family can be sent to his sister, Trisha McCrea, at 907-441-1238 or Roger Sr. at 907-240-1927.
