James Winter Obituary

James Alan Winter
James Alan Winter, 89, of New Milford, passed away Friday morning, August 1, 2025. James was a widower after losing his wife Sandra in 2017.
Born in the Bronx, New York on April 16, 1936, James and brother Warren were the two sons to Patricia and Gus Winter. James had four children: James (Jennifer), Debra, Jeffrey (Carolyn) and Laurie (Tom). He was also survived by a niece, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
James was a resident of New Milford since 1961. He and Sandra built their home in 1967 and with the support of loved ones, he was able to stay in his home until his final moment.
He was also a local business owner on the green in New Milford, formerly owning Housatonic Valley Insurance Agency. James enjoyed his business relationships throughout town and often spoke about memorable experiences in his later years. He was fortunate to have the opportunity to retire at 65 and when he did, he lived out his retirement to the fullest. He was a lifelong bow hunter of deer and an avid angler, specifically fly fishing. He enjoyed nature and the beauty of being outdoors. He also enjoyed the lives of his children, often speaking to friends and sharing glowing stories of his children's successes. He was a proud parent to the very end.
James, or Jim as friends knew him, will be missed. He touched more lives than he may have realized.
Arrangements are being made by Lillis Funeral Home, New Milford, for a private family burial.
