Carol Kuffel Obituary

Carol Barto Kuffel
Carol Joan Barto Kuffel (nee Nanni), 85, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday July 27, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Born on June 17, 1940, to Aldo and Mildred Nanni in Spring Valley, Illinois, Carol was the youngest of two children. She attended Immaculate Conception grade school and graduated from Hall High School in 1958. Following graduation, Carol worked at American Nickeloid as a secretary.
In September 1959, Carol married Ronald Barto, and they had two children, Julie and Michael. Ronald passed away in 1984, and Carol later married Franklin Kuffel in 1991.
Carol was always generous with her time and remained an active member of the Spring Valley Junior Women's club as a young mother. As her children grew, she volunteered in their classrooms, with their sports teams, and served as a Girl Scout Leader.
Carol studied at Illinois Valley Community College. She also worked as a sales representative for Lancome Cosmetics at Bergner's in Peru. After moving from the Illinois Valley, Carol continued working for Lancome in sales and became a freelance consultant in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs until she returned to Spring Valley to care for her parents.
In retirement, Carol treasured the time volunteering every summer at her granddaughters' Vacation Bible School at St. Thomas in Palatine, IL. Carol also enjoyed participating in the Volunteer Grandparents Program, where she assisted teachers in the classroom in local schools across the valley. In 2020, Carol moved to Nevada to be near her daughter.
Carol's joyful spirit and generous heart led her to a life of service to others and especially to her family. More than anything, she loved her family and spending time with them.
Carol is survived by her children, Julie (Eric) Fisher of Henderson, NV and Michael (Christine) Barto of Palatine, IL as well as grandchildren Maria, Gina, and Veronica Barto and Joshua (Kathryn), Austin (Joelle), Alyssa (Jonathan), and Ethan Fisher and great-grandchildren Jameson, Luke, Drew, and Lyla, and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Aldo and Mildred Nanni; her brother, Richard Nanni; Ronald Barto, and Franklin Kuffel.
A Mass of Christian burial for Carol will be held at Nativity of Our Lord Parish (St. Anthony Church) in Spring Valley on Saturday, August 30th, at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Scott Potthoff officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church. The Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is honored to be assisting Carol's family at this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hall Township Food Pantry or the Alzheimer's Association.
