Janice Hammer, age 71, of Spring Valley, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.
Funeral services for Janice will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 10th, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Peru, with Pastor Tom Redig officiating. Visitation for Janice will be held Friday, at the church, from 10:00 AM until time of services. Following the funeral, cremation will be accorded.

Janice was born in Peoria, IL on May 26, 1953 to Chester and Francis (Oser) Thomas. She married William "Bill" Hammer on December 15, 1979 at the Henry Christian Church.
Janice was a graduate of Henry High School, Class of 1971. She had worked at Murray's in Peoria before raising her family. She later worked for Hardee's, then McDonald's. She was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Peru and taught Sunday School there for over 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; her sons, John (Tina) Hammer, Matthew Hammer, and Steven Hammer; two grandchildren, Jacob and Benjamin; her sister-in-law, Donna Thomas; and several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold Thomas.
