Alfred L. Esposito, age 85, of Madison, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, after a long illness.
Alfred was born on April 5, 1940, the son of Alfred L. Esposito and Marie P. Esposito. He grew up in New Haven, CT. Alfred graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT in 1958. He went on pursue a career as an educator, graduating from Southern Connecticut State College, earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in education. He later completed his Master's degree in education and earned a Sixth-Year certificate in Student Services (Counseling).
In 1963, Alfred married the love of his life, Marlene Costanzo Esposito. During their nearly 62 years of marriage, Alfred and Marlene lived in Clinton, CT. where they raised their family.
Mr. Esposito's career in education spanned 35 years. In the early years, he taught elementary school in North Branford and Killingworth. He was a school counselor at East Lyme Middle School and Lyme-Old Lyme High School.
Mr. Esposito created a work-study program for inner city teens with a daily reading requirement to work. He piloted this program with the New Haven Redevelopment Agency which he supervised in the summers. He led Parent Workshops for parenting skills, sibling rivalry and communication skills. He was an active leader in the shoreline school counselor's professional organization.
Alfred was a kind person with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed cooking dinners for his family, taking road trips with Marlene, and tending to his gardens. He will be missed forever.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Marlene, his children Katherine Pothin (Timothy), Glen Esposito and Brian Esposito, his brother Robert Esposito, eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Anthony Esposito.
A memorial Mass to celebrate Alfred's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at St. Margaret's Church in Madison. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Clinton.
