Margaret Ann (Peg) Duggan
Margaret Ann (Peg) Duggan passed away peacefully on July 27, surrounded by her large, loving and very appreciative family.
Peg was born in Derby, Connecticut on April 17, 1934 to the late Michael and Catherine Conroy. In 1950, while attending Derby HIgh School, she met the love of her life, Bill Duggan. They met on the set of the DHS play "Starlight, Starbright," They were married on August 25, 1956 and continued their lifelong love until this very day.
Peg is survived by her five children - Joe and his wife Carol from Newington, Bill and his wife Karen from Glastonbury, Maureen, Pat and his wife Karen from Clayton, California, and Eileen. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren - Colleen and Casey Duggan, Mike, William, Mark, Matthew and Amy Duggan, Jake, Liam and Jude Regula, Finnian, Brenna, Patrick and Carrick Duggan, and Angela Testa. She is also survived by a great-grandchild - Rowan James Weiss - and sister-in-law Mary Brickett. In addition, she is survived by nieces and nephews Barbara Joan O'Neil, Patty, Kathleen and Edward Brickett, and Kathy Conroy Langit.
Peg was an avid sports fan and participant, including playing tennis for many years, usually on the courts at Bradley School. She particularly enjoyed watching Yankee baseball as well as UConn men's and women's basketball, where she was a longtime season ticket holder. Peg and Bill, along with a large traveling party, attended 13 Women's Final Fours. They were also regular attendees at the many sporting events and school programs that their large family were involved with. She also had a wide range of hobbies and interests, including going to Broadway shows and the Goodspeed Opera House, trips to the casino, and dominating Bill when it came to Jeopardy. She also enjoyed crocheting, counted cross stitching, knitting and sewing, and was a master seamstress, making clothes for herself and her family. She also enjoyed reading, especially historical fiction, and, when it came to music, had a long time appreciation for the Glen MIller Orchestra.
Peg attended St. Mary's School in Derby, and after high school went on to Albertus Magnus and Southern Connecticut State University. She earned a Masters Degree from SCSU while, along with BIll, managed to put all five children through college. She taught for 23 years at both Irving and Bradley School, and earned Teacher of the Year honors in 1995.
Peg was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law and sister-in-law. She loved family gatherings and get-togethers, with many hosted at her home each year. She was pre-deceased by her sister Queenie, and brothers Mike, Bill and Jack.
All those whose paths crossed with Peg came away feeling they had met a caring, friendly, compassionate and genuinely nice person.
She will be missed terribly by her family, but her legacy will live on, particularly with the ongoing scholarships in her and Bill's names at Derby HIgh School. Peg and Bill had the marriage of a lifetime, and Peg's memory will be kept alive through her friends and family.
Peg contributed to many charities, and knitted and donated innumerable prayer shawls for those in need. In lieu of flowers, a donation to any charity in her name would be welcome, or please consider making a donation to the Conroy-Duggan Family DHS Scholarship Fund with checks payable to Eileen Duggan at 12 Lee Street, Waterford, CT 06385 or via Venmo @eileen-duggan-10.
