Larry Lee Bauer, age 86, of Defiance died on Oct. 19, 2025, at Glenn Park Senior Living Community.
He was born on April 9, 1939, to the late Byron and Ruth (Steingass) Bauer, in Holgate, Ohio. Larry served his country for eight years in the U.S. Army National Guard and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant (SSG) in 1964.
Larry married the love of his life, Lois (Shawver) on June 24, 1962, in Defiance, Ohio, and began raising a family. Larry worked for various construction companies in the area until 1978, when he started his own business, Bauer Construction, until he retired in 2010. He was also a member of the South Richland Twp. Fire Department for 60 years and served as assistant fire chief for 10 years.
Larry and his wife were also founding members of Faith Baptist Church, where he was a maintenance man until he just couldn't do it anymore.
Larry loved adventure. He went hunting in Africa and Canada. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada and Lake Erie. He went to Costa Rica sail fishing as well. When he wasn't traveling the world, Larry loved gardening, tending to his fruit trees, homemade ice cream, following the Green Bay Packers, playing Rummikub with his family, and relaxing on his front porch.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Lois Bauer, Defiance, Ohio; children, Steve (Annabelle) Bauer, Pensacola, Florida, Joe (Kelly) Bauer, Defiance, Ohio, and Nicole (Scott) Jordan, Holgate, Ohio; grandchildren, Abbie (Jeff) Bohlin, Orlando, Florida, Austin Bauer, Pensacola, Floirda, Dale (Kristi) Bauer, Swanton, Ohio, Jason Jordan and Luke Jordan, Holgate, Ohio; and great-grandchild, Henry Bohlin, Orlando, Florida.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Osborn, Marge Lord, Janice Cain and Nancy Augsburger; and brothers, Dan and Jim Bauer.
A visitation will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 14102 OH-111, Defiance, Ohio 43512, on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the church on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mick Sobieck officiating. Family will begin receiving friends at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens & Garden Cemetery Mausoleums, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, between 3-5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in honor of Larry.
