Doyle Coffey Obituary

Mr. Doyle Wayne Coffey, 59, of the New Harmony Community of Walton County, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, in Chautauqua Rehab and Nursing Center. He was born July 2, 1954, in Brewton, Ala., the son of Harvey B. and Ouida Davidson Coffey. He moved with his family at age 10 to the New Harmony Community when they bought out Sam Campbell's Store, changing the name to Coffey's Store, a long time area landmark. Doyle attended Walton High School, graduating with the Class of 1972. While a student, he worked with a local parts store through the DCT program. Later he became a millwright. He loved fishing and the outdoors and had a passion for growing things; plants, flowers, anything that grew in soil. He also loved cooking on the grill and had many family famous "secret" recipes. Doyle was part of the fellowship of Liberty Assembly of God Church. He was diagnosed with cancer in October 2008, a well-fought battle he lost late Friday night.
Among survivors are his mother, Ouida Coffey, his daughter, Jessica Lloyd and husband Billy. His stepson, Roger Dale Slaughter and wife Kelly. His sisters, Joyce Farmer and husband Wade and Carol Shaw and husband Johnnie. His brothers, Kenneth Coffey and Gregory Coffey and wife Penny. The other of his children, Debbie Webb; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be one hour prior to funeral time.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, in Jerry Evans Funeral Home, with Brother Jeff Cain and Brother George Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow in New Harmony Community Cemetery. Friends and family may go online to view obituaries, offer condolences and sign the guest register at jerryevansfuneralhome.com.
