It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Georgia Elizabeth Bauer, who left us peacefully on August 4, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on February 22, 1931, in Johnsburg, IL, Georgia was a beloved figure in her community and a true force of nature on her family farm in Ringwood, IL.
Georgia was the queen of pies and homemade donuts, known for her phenomenal baking skills and the best pie crust anyone had ever tasted. On the farm, she did it all-milking cows, canning produce, and managing everything that came her way. Under her watchful eye, chickens didn't stand a chance; she could clean one faster than you could blink. You could often spot her on her tractor, proudly emblazoned with "Ma's Ride".
Beyond farming, Georgia had a big heart for her community and a love for traveling. She spent many years working in the ER at McHenry Centegra Hospital, where she not only contributed as a dedicated employee but also embraced volunteering after her retirement. Before that, she lent her organizational skills to the McHenry Plaindealer, sorting while socializing with her lady friends.
She loved gathering with family and friends to play cards. As a member of the Wednesday Ladies Golf League, she enjoyed lunching with the ladies more than the golf itself.
Georgia is survived by her children: Kevin (Lynn) Bauer, N Toots Kelley-Smith (Sam Smith), and Janet (Shane) Halligan; her grandchildren: Steven Bauer, Chad Bauer, Cortney Fowles, Kyle Schmitt, Ashley Halligan, and Kairsta Haubold; her 8 great- grandchildren; her siblings: Donna (late Ed) Condon, Barbara (late Donnie) Wagner, Leon (Ruth Ann) Schmitt, Dennis (Verna) Schmitt, and Gary (Cathy) Schmitt; and her sisters-in-law: Joan (late Chuck) Miller and Beverly Schmitt.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband: Roland "Rog" Bauer; her children: Randy Bauer and Jennifer Haubold; her grandson: Austin Haubold; her parents: Albert and Frances Schmitt; and her brother: Jack Schmitt.
A Visitation will be held for Georgia on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry, IL from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Wonder Lake, IL at 10:00 AM. The Burial will follow at Ringwood Cemetery in Ringwood, IL.
