SAL PIROPATO Obituary

PIROPATO--Sal, 90, passed away at his home in Mt. Pleasant, SC, on February 14, 2026. Sal was the son of the late Leonard and Anna Piropato. He was the beloved husband of the late Teresa Gentile Piropato. He was the loving father of Joseph Piropato (Paul Michaud), the late Lisa Heffernan, and Elena Pierce (Randolph). He was the cherished grandfather of Leah Heffernan Reynolds (Brandon), Ethan Pierce, and Julia Pierce. Sal was the dear brother of the late Louis Piropato (Mary), the late Elsie Mirenda (Joseph) and John Piropato (Olga); and brother- in-law of Gayann Thomas (Bob) and Dr. Andrew Gentile (Nancy). He was "Uncle Sal" to 16 adoring nieces and nephews. Sal graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, where he excelled in baseball. He was drafted into the minor leagues, but chose to attend New York University, where he earned a BA in Marketing Management. While at NYU, Sal worked as a messenger at the New York Times, which was the beginning of a 44-year career in which he held senior leadership roles in the Advertising division. Sal concluded his professional life as Chairman of the Advisory Board of Castagna Realty in Manhasset. He was active in many charitable organizations on Long Island and was honored for his service. Sal could often be seen running along Shore Road in Douglas Manor or playing tennis at the Douglaston Club. Later in life, he enjoyed golf and long walks along the Lattingtown shoreline and Daniel Island trails. Sal was proud of his Italian heritage. Nothing pleased him more than celebrating with family and friends while enjoying Italian food and wine, at home or at one of many restaurants where he was on a first name basis with the owner, chef, and sommelier. Classical music brought Sal great peace, especially in his final years. Contributions can be made in his honor to www.wqxr.org/donate
