Cecile Prusaitis Obituary

Cecile M. Prusaitis, age 90, of Dundee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at the Hampton Manor Assisted Living facility under hospice care.

Born November 7, 1930, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Hector and Marie (Massie) Pelletier. Cecile graduated from Nativity of Our Lord Catholic High School in Detroit, MI. After high school, she worked at Burroughs Corp. in Detroit. Cecile then worked for Monroe Community College. She retired as Secretary to the Director of Admissions and Counseling in 1991.

On June 20, 1953, Cecile married her soul mate: William "Bill" Prusaitis at St. Anthony's Church in Detroit. They raised a family of four children and spent over 67 wonderful years together. The first church they attended on their trip to Florida for their honeymoon was St. Mary's Catholic Church in Monroe. They later became members of St. Mary's Parish. After moving to Monroe in the early '70s, Cecile taught Catechism classes, she volunteered as a teacher's aide, and teaching math at Christancy school. From 2000, she was member of the Rosary Makers group, making over 16,000 rosaries and belonged to the St. Michaels prayer shawl makers group.

Volunteering involved activities she enjoyed such as United Way in St. Clair Shores and Easter Seals of Monroe. She was the President of Monroe Newcomers Club, Business & Professional Women's member, RSVP in caregiving, and Project Read for adults. Cecile was proud of her French heritage. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She was a strong Detroit Tigers fan. Family, friends, and her Catholic faith was important to her. She liked spending quality time with her grandchildren which was very pleasing to her, with such activities as musical concerts, sewing new clothes, playing cards, and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Cecile enjoyed the up-north vacations with the family at Higgins Lake at their family cottage. She enjoyed fishing, boating, sailing, and golfing at the near golfing courses. In the winter, she enjoyed snowmobiling on the snowmobile trials. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband on some of his business trips and winter vacations in Florida. Cecile and her husband Bill enjoyed going on cruises, after taking their first cruise on their 25th wedding anniversary in the Caribbean Sea visiting and touring the Islands.

Surviving is her husband: William "Bill" Prusaitis; children: William D. (Amy) Prusaitis, Cindy M. Prusaitis, Mark E. (Valerie) Prusaitis, and Gregory A. (Cynthia) Prusaitis; grandchildren: Heather Prusaitis, George Bellman, Edward Bellman, Genevieve Prusaitis, Andrew Prusaitis, Danielle Kachar, Samantha Sobota, and Melissa Wickenheiser; as well as four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Cecile is preceded in death by a brother: George Pelletier.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at Rupp Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place on Monday, April 19, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Monroe. Cecile will lie instate at 10 a.m. with the funeral Mass starting at 11 .am. Entombment will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery.
