Erma Newman Obituary

Erma J. Smith Newman, 89, of Donora, died Wednesday, March 5, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born January 8, 1936, in Brownsville, she was a daughter of Lester Elwood and Jane Elizabeth Duncan Smith. A graduate of Brownsville High School, she was a longtime member of Sampson Union Church. In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Elmer; daughter, Deborah Seefried; four brothers, Robert, Gary, Charles "Lloyd" and Ronald Smith; and brother-in- law, George Rudge. She is survived by a son, David E. (Karen) Newman of Monongahela; a daughter, Diane L. (Russell) Connors of Elizabeth; son, Douglas R. (Debra) Newman of Finleyville; and son, Daniel L. (Tracy) Newman of Donora. She was blessed with eight grandchildren, Heather Seefried, Christina Williamson, DJ (Kelsey) Newman, Brandon (Samantha) Newman, Joseph (Nikki) Palmer, Patrick (Courtney) Connors, Douglas (Kara) Newman, and Deanna (Daniel) Hess; and nine great-grandchildren, Christian Williamson, Aribella Newman, Arryana Newman, Tierney Newman, Brian Tuttle, Cameron Burns, Peyton Burns, Finnegan Connors and Presley Connors. She is also survived by two sisters, Lola Rudge, and Annette (Robert) Maurer; a son-in-law, James Seefried; and nephews, Howard and Elmer Newman, who resided with her; along with many other nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033, 724- 379-6900, where friends will be recieved from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 9. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 10, in the funeral home, with Pastors Robert and Thomas Maurer officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park.
