Loretta Dayich Obituary

Loretta Anthony Dayich passed peacefully, in her home, Sunday, February 25, 2024, surrounded by family and listening to Josh Turner. Loretta was born August 2, 1934, in Monessen, the oldest of five children of Albert and Anna Anthony. She graduated from Belle Vernon High School and then Douglas Business College. She was a career woman and worked at Page Steel and Wire, Datafold and then Franklin Township Sewer Authority. She married Louis Dayich, the love of her life, January 20, 1959, and moved to Greene County several years later. She read the newspaper, did crossword puzzles, watched cable news, shopped like it was her job, and met strangers by telling them the best deals in the grocery store. Loretta was an avid reader, generous to a fault, never met a stranger, and had wisdom of the ages that she used as a worthy advisor to many. She had an excellent eye for beauty and quality and was known for her hospitality, great family dinners, determination and quick wit. She was an active and longtime member of Saint George Episcopal Church and the Social Services League. She loved a good bargain, yard sales and she cherished her very dear friends. She was the matriarch of many and is survived by her loving children, Karina (John) and Lou (Tammy); and grandchildren, Annie (Brandon), Nick, Clarine and Steven; and her extended family, Everleigh, Layla and Camren. She was a force of nature and will be greatly missed. Private arrangements have been entrusted to the Behm Funeral Home, 182 W. High Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370. Condolences may be expressed at www.behmfh.com.

I had the pleasure of taking care of Loretta when she was at waynesburg healthcare and rehab. I talked to her about my wedding that was coming up in Oct and she told me funny story about her and her husband. She told me to hold on to all the memories that were to come with my marriage bc one day that´s all we have. She was a very kind and wise woman. Her words still hold onto me till this day and I think they always will. My condolences to the family.

Mrs Dayich was very motherly to me during my teenage years having lost my mother at age 14. She provided a home away from home with a warm house and an abundance of food and kindness. She and Lou were cheap entertainment with their sitcom like relationship. Many fun stories were born through the years. I appreciated her sense of humor and energy. She was a friend of some of my adult family. Of course with the nurturing side I had to be a part of disciplinary side of Mrs Dayich particularly the time Lou and I barrowed his dad´s car at age 13. We drifted it down the road with the engine off so that we would go unnoticed. It may have been the squealing tire noises that alerted Loretta as we took the turn in front of her house on what seemed like 2 wheels. We drifted the car quietly back in the driveway only to find Loretta waiting behind the hedges for us. It was good that Lou was ahead of me because he took the brunt of the head shots. Of we were threatened with jail time in the heat of the moment lol.
It was a blessing to be a part of Mrs Dayich´s life.
I´m a sure she will receive rewards in heaven for her kindness to others.
Peace be to my good friend Lou and Karina.
