Gary Coats Obituary

Gary grew up in Sandy, Oregon, but lived most of his life in Happy Valley. He graduated from Sandy High School, Portland State University, and Lewis and Clark College. Gary worked at Ickes Jr. High and Milwaukie High School. In 1958 he married Sandra Haag, and they celebrated 64 years together.
Gary was known for creating Foundations of American Democracy, a tour that he took with students during the summers for 20 years. He also worked at the Memorial Coliseum, and the Milwaukie Swim pool teaching swim and lifesaving skills. He volunteered for many years at the Sandy Historical Society.
