Jenifer Gilyard Obituary

Mr. Jenifer Melvin "Jent" Gilyard, 72, of San Mateo, entered the sunset of life on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Jacksonville.
The son of Clarence Sr. and Melvise (Holsey) Gilyard, he was born on Monday, January 28, 1952, in San Mateo. He was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1970 graduate of Palatka South High School. "Jent" was a lifelong member of New Bethel A.M.E. Church, San Mateo. He was the owner and operator of Rite Touch Lawn Service. He enjoyed fishing and going shopping at flea markets.
In addition to his parents, Jent was preceded in eternal rest by his granddaughter, Tomarius Poole; and grandson, Malachi Joel Gilyard.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife of 34 years, Carolyn Gilyard; daughters, Verlandy (Terrance Jr.) Sims, Jennifer Gilyard, Syreeta (Andre Jr.) Hill, Latoya Williams, Georgie Calloway, Angelita (Eric) Bell; sons, Jendrick (Falon) Gilyard, Bradley (Amy) Gilyard, Travis (Rebecca) Gilyard; 25 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence Gilyard Jr, Willie Bernard (Cathy) Gilyard, Jethro (Josephine) Gilyard; sisters, Clarissa Williams, Deanna Brown, Aronell (Donald) Williams, Evelyn (Elisha Sr.) Miller, Loretta Smith, Rachel (Calvin) Maxwell, Annette (Willard Eugene, Sr.) Smith, Vosie (Amos) Miller; aunts, Dr. Lilla G. Holsey, Lillian Lee; godchildren, Rhonda Jara, Xya Toussaint; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 30, New Bethel A.M.E. Church, 154 N. Boundary Road, San Mateo. Celebration of Jent's Life will be 10 a.m., Saturday, August 31 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave, Palatka. The Rev. Dr. Charletta Robinson, Pastor of New Bethel A.M.E. Church, is the eulogist.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
