Terry Tucker Obituary

Terry Robert Tucker

BLOOMINGTON - Terry Robert Tucker, 83, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, humor, and kindness. Terry is survived by his wife, Mary, of 59 years; his daughter, Ellen; his son, Bob (Laurie); his grandchildren, Ally (26), Joey (24), and Will (23); as well as his brothers, Steve (Jane) and Rick (Stephanie). He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy; and his brother Doug (Cheryl).

Terry was born and raised in Iowa, where he lived in Atlantic, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport before moving to Bloomington. Terry spent three decades as a physics teacher at Davenport West High School, where he inspired countless students with his love of science and his gift for teaching others. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and held a Master of Physics from the University of Missouri Rolla.

Before his teaching career, Terry was a standout wrestler in high school, earning third place in the state of Iowa his senior year, though he often remarked that he should have taken first. He went on to wrestle in college.

Terry was fun to be around, silly, often unintentionally funny, and always competitive. To his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who adored him, he was often like a big kid. His jokes and easygoing nature brought a lot of laughs, and we will remember his warmth.

A gathering to Celebrate Terry's Life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared with close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society through St. Patrick's Church of Merna.
