Marshia Ivy Thrasher VanSlyke, of Jasonville, Ind., passed sweetly into the welcoming arms of Jesus on Friday, July 26, 2024, in the comfort of her home, with her loving and devoted family at her side.
Marshia entered this life in Jonesboro on April 29, 1952. She was the daughter of the late James and Doris Bond Ivy. In 1969, she married pastor Rudy L. Thrasher. Side by side, they raised five children, pastored and shared the love of God together. Rudy preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 2017.
Marshia faithfully fulfilled the calling of a minister's wife. She spent a total of 55 years, sharing her heart with her church family. They pastored Soul's Harbor Church, Shelburn Ind., The Lighthouse in Columbia, Tenn., and Apostolic Life Tabernacle of Paragould. They were privileged to share the gospel in Israel, Mexico, Jamaica and Korea. She was also an active teacher for Christian schools for 30 years.
On July 17, 2020, she married Rev. Willard D. VanSlyke. She was a "super shopper" of shoes and purses. Most of all, she enjoyed shopping for those less privileged than she was. Her heart was the true hands and feet of Jesus. Doing for others brought her much joy. She enjoyed flowers and spending time gardening. Marshia was a beautiful singer and also enjoyed playing the accordion, clarinet and piano.
Those awaiting her Heavenly arrival are her parents; her first husband, Rev. Rudy L. Thrasher; son, pastor Darrell Thrasher; siblings, Ronnie Ivy and Gary Ivy; and a granddaughter, Brittney Thrasher.
Family left to cherish her memory are her husband, Reverend Willard VanSlyke; children, pastor Darren and (Kimberly) Thrasher, Denita and (Curtis) Eaton, Bryan and (Channah) Thrasher, Devon and (Rachel) Thrasher and daughter in-law, Krysti Thrasher; siblings, Stephen and (Mary) Ivy and Judy Brinkley, 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Monday, July 29, at Soul's Harbor Church in Shelburn, Ind., from 4-8 p.m.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 30, at noon, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Rev. Willard VanSlyke, pastor Darren Thrasher and Dr. John Scheel officiated. Burial, with graveside services, was Wednesday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.
The staff at Holmes Memorial Chapel of Sullivan, Ind., were honored to assist the family with arrangements.
