Jared Evens Obituary

Jared L. Evens

April 13, 1944 - June 25, 2025

HUDSON FALLS - Jared L. Evens, 81, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the home of his daughter, Kathy.

Born on April 13, 1944, in Fort Edward, he was the son of the late Leon and Avis (Dickinson) Evens.

Jared graduated from Fort Ann High School, class of 1962. Growing up working on the family farm, Jared realized farming wasn't for him, so he took a job at Finch Pruyn and worked for them for six years. Uncle Sam became his next choice but a hand injury derailed those plans. Since he always enjoyed his mechanical abilities, an opportunity came his way to work as a diesel mechanic at Hillman Brother's Trucking. For the 13 years he rebuilt engines and drivetrains. His hobby during this time was investing in rental real estate which became more than a hobby. He managed, repaired, and maintained those rental units for over 30 years.

He was a collector of all things, including antique cars. He enjoyed bad Dad jokes, woodworking, spending time with his kids and grandchildren, sporting events, traveling and in his younger years playing basketball and Ice Hockey.

In addition to his parents, Jared was predeceased by his sister, Anita Strainer.

Left to cherish his memory include his children, Scott Stark (Marianne) of Hudson Falls, Chad Evens (Erin) of Queensbury, Laureen Panek (Jesse) of Clermont, Fla., Rebecca Dunda of Hartford, Kathy Evens (Alex Bradley) of Hudson Falls; his two step-sons, Michael Cozzens (Kimberly) of Clifton Park and Aaron Cozzens (Danielle) of Skagway, Alaska; his grandchildren, otherwise known as Hunk-E-Poo's include, Emmalee and Kaleb Stark, Victoria and Luke Panek, Alawnah (Adam) and Daymien Dunda, Haylee Flewelling; and several nephews.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward. A prayer service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the services in Brown Cemetery, West Fort Ann, N.Y. Following the burial, a celebration of life will be back at the Fort Edward Fire Department.

In memory of Jared, please donate blood at your local blood drive.

The family wishes to extend a Thank You to Dr. Anne Evans, Dr. Peter Gray and staff at Irongate for their years of care.

Jane and Terry Bowen

July 5, 2025

My husband, Terry, and I were friends with Jared. We spent a lot of time driving around Hadlock in his 57 Chevy. We would stop at the bridge at the north end of the lake and jump off the rails and swim. Jared was one of our ushers at our wedding. Terry had a serious motorcycle accident and spent several months in a body cast. Jared would come and visit him while he was in bed and taught him to play chess. His kindness will always be with us. RIP, Jared
