Claire Marie Lopatto

July 22, 1956 - June 6, 2025

Claire Marie Lopatto, beloved sister, aunt and friend, died on June 6th after a valiant year long battle with cancer. She was born on July 22, 1956 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Judge Edward and Josephine Lopatto. The seventh of nine children, she held a lifelong affection for her hometown and enjoyed sharing memories of her early life there. Claire earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from Wilkes College and a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of New Hampshire where she was subsequently employed as an Academic Advisor. She joined the staff of Stockton University as an Academic Advisor in 1996, retiring from the University as Assistant Dean, School of General Studies in 2023. Stockton colleagues recall Claire's deep commitment to student success, her candor and collegiality, and the positive impact that she had on the Stockton Community. Claire will be remembered for her quiet determination, compassion for others, and quick wit, which could lighten the most difficult of days . She was devoted to her family, faithfully remembering birthdays and special events and proudly following the achievements of her nieces and nephews. She loved theater, literature and art and filled her home with cherished books and prints. Claire was pre-deceased by her parents, Edward and Josephine Lopatto. She will be greatly missed by her siblings, Mary Jo Kule, Brooklyn Heights, New York, Edward Lopatto, Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Anne Lopatto, New York, New York, Barbara (Frank) Comella , Bloomington, Illinois, David (Barbara Brown) Lopatto, Grinnell, Iowa, Paul ( Susan) Lopatto, Elmhurst, New York, Michael Lopatto, Brooklyn, New York, William (Paul Nyame) Lopatto, New York, New York; eleven nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to Claire's loyal friends and neighbors who provided her with loving support during her illness. A special thank you is extended to G. T. Lenard, Joan Lenard, and Karen Diemer, whose frequent visits and positive energy lifted Claire's spirits during her final days. A gathering will be held Tuesday June 10th from 5 to 7 p.m. with a service to begin at 7 p.m. at the Wimberg Funeral Home, 211 E. Great Creek Rd., Galloway NJ 08205. Interment will be held Wednesday June 11th at 1 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Cemetery Route 115 Bear Creek, PA, 18602.
