George Duffy Obituary

George Andrew Duffy

George Andrew Duffy, 92, of Atlantic City, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, at Complete Care in Cape May Court House, surrounded by love and cherished memories. Born on August 29, 1932, in Camden, NJ, George's early life was marked by resilience and determination. Raised on a pig farm in Bellmawr, NJ, he faced profound loss at a young age. Losing his father at age four, John Willer, died in 1936. His brother, John Willer drowned in 1937, and his mother, Fanny Mae Willer, lovingly cared for him until she died when he was 12. In his early teens, George was adopted by Neil and Esther Duffy of Ocean City, NJ, where he found a renewed sense of family and friendship, alongside his lifelong companion, Charlie Smith, who also was adopted by his own grandparents. While attending Ocean City High School, George met the love of his life, Barbara Anne Heist, beginning a love that would span decades. After high school, George enlisted in the Air Force, where he excelled as a basketball player, even sharing the court on occasion with the legendary Wilt Chamberlain. Following his active time in the service, George married Barbara Anne and together, they built a beautiful life, raising four children in Moorestown, NJ. Determined to provide for his family, George earned a degree in Engineering from Temple University while working at Stewart Warner and selling ice cream, part-time from a truck. He later founded Willer Associates, a successful plumbing and heating business he ran for over 20 years. George's life was a testament to perseverance and faith. Despite the challenges of his early years, his unwavering belief carried him forward. He had a deep love for golf, dancing at every opportunity, and cheering passionately for his beloved Philadelphia Eagles-Fly Eagles Fly!!! In the early 1990s, George and Barbara retired to their much adored hometown Ocean City. He loved traveling and worked part time as an insurance inspector for Heist Insurance. On many occasions, he would grab the family dog for a ride along partner. He had a love for flowers and annually entered the OC flower show After Barbara's passing in 2005, George found love again with Maureen Roseman, sharing a new season of travel and dancing together. George is survived by his devoted wife, Maureen; his children: Anne R. Carr (husband Shaun), Peter H. Duffy (wife Michelle), and Kathryn W. Duffy; his grandchildren: Shaun P. Carr, Carolyn A. Carr, John W. Duffy, Bryan M. Sharp, Geoffrey C. Duffy, Dylan J. Carr, and Daniel T. Carr; as well as eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Maureen's children: Lois Kelly (husband Jim), Lisa Nagel, and George Newman. He was preceded in death by his adored first wife, Barbara Anne, and his eldest son, George Andrew Duffy Jr. George will be remembered as a tenacious, strong-willed man whose life was defined by love, faith, and a determination to overcome life's challenges. His legacy of strength and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity or organizations supporting veterans, causes that held deep meaning to George. A life so well-lived deserves to be celebrated, and George's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him. The family will be having a celebration of life on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Good Shepherd UMC, 217 Northfield Ave, Northfield NJ. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation and 11 a.m. mass. Luncheon at 12 p.m. at the Moose Lodge 216 3900 Westend Ave, Atlantic City, NJ.
