Elsie Schultz Obituary

Elsie Schultz

January 23, 1926 - August 10, 2025

Elsie E. Schultz, 99, of Lake Nebagamon, died Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.

Elsie was born in Langquaid, Germany on January 23, 1926, to George and Theresa (Wagner) Kaunzinger. She came to the United States at the age of 2, living in St. Louis and Chicago, then finally settling in Park Falls, WI, where she raised her family. She moved to Arlington Heights, IL, and Bruce, WI, but eventually returned to Park Falls, living on Butternut Lake for many years. She most recently lived in Lake Nebagamon, proudly living independently at the age of 99, although she still regretted giving up her driver's license at 95.

Elsie owned and operated hair salons, including Elsie's in Park Falls for over 25 years. She volunteered at the hospital as a Red Cross Gray Lady, was a member of the Red Hat Society and Catholic Daughters. She traveled the world with friends and family, especially loving her trips to Florida to visit her brother and sister-in-law, and her trips back to Germany.

She loved gambling, fishing, bird hunting, playing bridge, and being social with an Amaretto Sour or Southern Comfort in hand. She bowled in a league well into her 80s.

Most important though was time spent with family. Ideally, her family would take her to the casino, have chicken nuggets and share Reese's peanut butter cups, but a beautiful day at the lake surrounded by family was perfect, too.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Lincoln Grassel; second husband Edwin Schultz; son William Grassel and daughter-in-law Violette; granddaughter Cheyenne Grassel; brother William Kaunzinger; and sister Anita Santieu and brother-in-law Dan.

Elsie is survived by her children, Mike (Gail) Grassel of Hayward and Patty (Guy) Peterson of Lake Nebagamon; grandchildren Garrett Grassel, Aaron (Megan) Grassel, Brian (Darlene) Grassel, Jonathan (Alyssa) Grassel, Jennifer (Jerry) Meys, Jesse (Jillian) Peterson, and Jody (Chris) McGinley; great grandchildren Garrett, Adrian, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Riannan, Addison, Ethan, Trysta, Jayda, Paul (Kaitlyn), Ellie, Finley, Henrietta, and Elaine; great-great grandchildren Nova, Lincoln, and Santiago; dearest sister-in-law Louise Kaunzinger; nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 19th from 10:30 until the 11:00 funeral mass at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 11648 E County Rd B, Lake Nebagamon with Fr. Anthony Reddy as celebrant. Burial will be at a later date in Park Falls, WI.

If desired, memorials in Elsie's name may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lake Nebagamon or to a Veteran's organization.
