David Lefever Obituary

David E. Lefever

March 12, 1939 - February 6, 2025

David E. Lefever, 85, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Weerts Funeral Home. On Friday, February 14, 2025, a memorial service will begin 10:30 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf. David was born in Hannibal, Missouri, to Cecelia (Maher) and Harold Lefever. He graduated from McCooey High School in 1957 and went on to pursue his degree at the University of Missouri, earning a BS in Animal Science in 1962. He enjoyed a successful career in animal reproduction, ultimately retiring as a pharmaceutical representative from Pfizer in 1996.

David was larger than life - an outgoing and vibrant individual who loved being around people. His passion for life extended to his hobbies, and he was known for his love of golfing and bicycling. He took part in RAGBRAI 13 times. Throughout his life, he was a dedicated member of several organizations, including the Iowa Pork Producers, Gyro Club, and the QC Bicycle Club, where he had served as president. He was a founding member and director of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition and a committed member of the Davenport Morning Club Optimists. David also enjoyed his time at Asbury United Methodist Church, where he took part in the personal faith and sharing group, further deepening his connection to the community.

David was grateful to share his life with his beloved partner, Patti Glass, and treasured the moments spent with his children and grandchildren. His spirited enthusiasm for life touched everyone who knew him.

Among those left to honor David's memory include his life partner, Patti Glass of Bettendorf, Iowa; children, Amy (Mitch) Moen of Bettendorf, Iowa, Mark (Dawn) Lefever of Travelers Rest, S.C., and grandchildren, Jason (Rebecca) Hon, Adam Hon, and Sarah Lefever.

David was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Delores Sanders, Paul Lefever; and a brother-in-law, Elmo Sanders.

I so enjoyed Dave's enthusiasm and humor . He always had a smile on his face. Our Optimist Club will have one less smile. Rest in peace.
