Doris R. (Hoenke) Frost, age 93 of Gilbert, Arizona went to be with the Lord on October 2, 2024, surrounded by her family. Doris was born in Plevna, Montana on April 21, 1931. She was the daughter of Rudy and Louise (Christman) Hoenke, the fifth of seven children. She was raised and attended school in Plevna. She graduated in 1949, but because she had just lost her father, she went looking for a job. She moved to Miles City and worked as a secretary for Lease and Leigland, the construction company that built the VA hospital. Later, she went to work at Mann Jewelers because it was in town. She was baptized and confirmed and a member of the Hope American Lutheran Church.
In 1952, she married Keith Frost, and the good Lord blessed them with a family of three. Tana (Tom) Huft, Cindy (Greg) Ban, Jeff Frost and his friend Linda, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Her family was her number one priority; she loved and lived for them. She sang for many funerals, accompanied by her husband, Keith. Together, they entertained at nursing homes, hospitals, church and many special occasions. She was a charter member of Fallon Homemakers and Superintendent of the Sunday school when her children were young. She enjoyed her bowling team and Pinochle card club. She loved games, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, and collecting coins. She also loved to go agate picking and made agate lamps. She loved to cook, was a hard worker, and a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.
For a short time, they owned and operated Frosty's Tavern in Fallon, Montana. In 1965, they purchased a farm and ranch on Cracker Box route and moved out there with their family in 1970 and lived there until retirement. She worked side by side with her husband in the fields, driving tractors, sileage and beet truck, but not as good around cattle.
In 2008, they moved to Miles City and with the passing of her husband in 2009, the children decided she should be closer to them. Should she move to Missoula or Arizona? In the fall of 2013, she moved to Chandler, Arizona (out of cold and snow) and lived next door to Greg and Cindy. She bought homes and Cindy did all the remodeling to flip and sell them. The last house she bought was larger and she decided to keep it so she could live with Greg and Cindy.
Preceding her in death were her husband Keith, her parents, sisters Pearl (Bud) Shepherd and Florence Quenzer, brothers Leonard and Morrie Hoenke, two brothers-in-law Albert Quenzer and Jess F. Hayes, and two sisters-in-law Ruth Hoenke and Delphine Hoenke.
Doris is survived by three children: Tana (Tom) Huft, Cindy (Greg) Ban, and Jeff Frost and his friend Linda Owens. Seven grandchildren: Bryan Huft, Jennifer Huft, Lindsay (Keith) Emerson, Amber Ban, Joel (Emily) Ban, Jamy Frost, and Danyl Frost, Nine great grandchildren: Sydney Emerson, Ryan Emerson, Graham O'Malley, Claire O'Malley, Kenny Ban, Austin Ban, Shawn Ban, Jaxon Frost, Hunter Frost. Two great great grandchildren: Everleigh O'Malley and Harper Ban. Sisters: Betty Jean Hayes and Shirley (John) Hamby. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
