Norman served his country with honor in the United States Coast Guard from 1954-1968, carrying the values of service, discipline and dedication throughout his life. He trained at Cape May, NJ and Field Point, RI becoming an Engineman Instructor. He also was a look out at various lighthouses on the East Coast.
After his military career, Norman went on to build a long and respected career at Narragansett Electric for 40 years, where he faithfully worked until his retirement. He was always one to accept a challenge and if someone told him you can't do that, he would say watch me. Norman didn't want to keep going up and down the ladder, so he decided to do a high wire act and walk across the telephone line while making repairs.
A devoted student of history, Norman was also a passionate Civil War reenactor, known for his commitment to authenticity and storytelling. His involvement helped bring
history to life for countless people and reflected his deep respect for the past. He joined Battery C 1st RI Light Artillery and attended numerous reenactments at Gettysburg, Shiloh and Cedar Creek. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant in a few years. He was a lifetime member of SK Forest Fire Service.
Above all, Norman was a family man, and his home was always filled with warmth, wisdom, and the echoes of laughter from generations who adored him.
He will always be remembered for his strength, kindness, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind Each and every day, Norman performed random acts of kindness toward others whether they be family, friends, neighbors or total strangers. If someone was in need, Norman would help, never seeking reward or acknowledgement. Norman quietly made the world a better place. Our love, gratitude and respect for Norman is beyond measure.
