Lou Newman Obituary

Lou Allen Newman, 95, of Harrisonburg, VA passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at his residence. Mr. Newman was born on February 18, 1930 in Harrisonburg, VA and was a son of the late Joseph Newman and Effie Nesselrodt Newman. He was a graduate of Harrisonburg High School and then went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1949 - 1950. Lou was employed as a USDA Poultry Grader until his retirement. He was a member of Victory Fellowship Church in Dayton. Lou enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading and playing the clarinet, but his greatest enjoyment came in spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather that will be deeply missed. On July 4, 1953, he married the former Mary Rose Landes. After 66 years of marriage, Mary preceded in him death on February 14, 2020. Surviving family members include one daughter, Julie Strunk and husband, Arthur; brother, James Wise and wife, Rita; grandchildren, Arthur Strunk and wife, Kelly, Amy Strunk, Erin Kapoor and husband, Karn and Andrew Strunk and wife, Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Luke Kapoor, Landon Strunk, Noah Strunk, Mason Strunk, Caleb Strunk and Oliver Strunk; sister-in-law, Edith Newman. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edwin Newman and Warren Newman; sisters, Virginia Wise, Phyllis Lam, Eleanor Lam. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Reverend Jim Harrison officiating. In keeping with Lou's wishes, the casket will remain closed and burial will be private at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
