SANDY CROSS - Ella Gwendell "Dell" Poland Carpenter, 79, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Dell was born in Nash County, NC on March 16, 1945. She was the daughter of the late James Elmer Poland and Lessie Odell Poland. She was the wife of the late Harry Lee Carpenter, Sr. .They celebrated 59 years of marriage. Dell was the eighth child of nine children.
Dell was a loving wife and mother. She always put her family first. She had a strong-willed spirit. Her main goal in life was keeping her family close. Dell always showed her love for Jesus in everything she did throughout her life.
She grew up in the Sandy Cross/Elm City area and remained in the area her entire adult life.
She is survived by four children, Lynne Spencer (Gene) of Middlesex, Angie Carpenter of Spring Hope, Lee Carpenter (Sherry) of Nashville and Mark Carpenter (Lisa) of Elm City; twelve grandchildren, Dustin Crickmore, Megan Strickland. Jared Strickland, Amber Tedder, Lindsey Brannon, Lesley Holly, Levi Carpenter, Dylan carpenter, Ashlyn Shook, Erin Skinner, Jordan Fountain and Carley Fountain; fifteen great-grandchildren, Allison Jane, Braylon, Camdyn, Eason, Grace, Hayleigh, Jonathan, Kashton, Kendell, Lane, Riley, Josie, Raylan, Greyson, and Jordan.
A visitation with family and friends will be Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 1:00-1:45pm at Cornerstone Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Lynn Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
