Walter Zarnoch Obituary
He was born in Utica, NY, on September 3, 1932, a son of the late Walter and Anna (Pietruch) Zarnoch. He was raised and educated in local schools and graduated from Whitesboro High School. Walter continued his education at Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC), where he earned an Associate's Degree. Mr. Zarnoch was a proud U.S. Navy veteran. On August 24, 1957, at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, in Houseville, NY, Walter married the former Margarete La Chausse. The couple shared in a union blessed with over 67 years of marriage. Mr. Zarnoch retired from the General Electric Company, Aerospace division, after more than 28 years of service. He also held positions at Utica Drop Forge & Tool Company and Sperry Rand-UNIVAC.
An avid outdoorsman, Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being out in the fresh air.
He is survived by his wife, Margarete; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and John Synakowski, Catherine and Brian MacFee and Janetmarie Dabrowski; and three sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Elaine Zarnoch, Philip and Elizabeth Zarnoch and Michael and Marta Zarnoch. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one uncle, Edward Pietruch; and many cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Wolanin Funeral Home, 266 Main St., New York Mills. Mr. Zarnoch's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Thursday, from Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, New York Mills. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Stanislaus and Casimir Cemetery, Whitestown.
In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial contributions, in Walter's memory, to Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 201 Main St., New York Mills, NY 13417, your favorite charity or in the form of Mass Cards. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of the St. Luke's Home for the care and compassion displayed to Walter and his family throughout this very difficult time.
