John Louis Chavez

December 13, 1940 - May 8, 2025

Fair Oaks, California - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, John Louis Chavez, who died peacefully on May 8, 2025, at the age of 84. Following the loss of a leg and a brave six-month struggle with complications from congestive heart failure and diabetes, he passed away at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.

John was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1940. He worked as a police officer for the Vernon PD. He married the love of his life, Susan Chavez, and together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on August 4, 2024. The couple made their home in Fair Oaks, California, where John lived for over 50years.

A dedicated and hardworking man, he finished his police career with the Sacramento Shariff's dept.

John then owned the Union 76 gas station at Sunrise and Fair Oaks before opening Fair Oaks Auto Repair, which he operated until his retirement in 2015. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fair Oaks Rotary Club, always giving back to his community.

John had a passion for soccer both playing and watching as well as fishing and enjoying music. His generosity, humor, and kindness touched all who knew him.

He leaves behind his loving children: Melinda Rademann, Mercedes Forte, and John P. Chavez; his cherished grandchildren: Michael, Katey, Ava, Tony, Jack, Luke, Colton, and Grace; and two adored great-grandchildren: Beau and one on the way.

As well as three siblings: Ronnie Schmidt, Becky Glynn and Sam Chavez.

A funeral mass will be held in his honor at St. Mel's Church on August 5, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with a reception to follow.
