William Moore Obituary

Mr. William Ronald (Deco) Moore, age 79, son of the late Doretha Knox Moore and JC Moore, was born on June 18, 1946, in Cleveland, North Carolina.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at his residence, 415 Torey Pines Court, Winston Salem, NC, he entered into eternal rest.

A former member of Knox Grove Baptist Church, Cleveland, he later joined the Disciples for Christ Outreach Ministries, Charlotte, NC and remained a member and faithful supporter. William graduated from R. A. Clement High School, Cleveland, in 1964, and subsequently received his BS Degree in Social Studies from the prestigious North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, NC.

Shortly after high school graduation, William joined the United States Marine Corp receiving an honorary discharge with a Purple Heart for timed served and injuries received in Vietnam.

After Vietnam, his career included the following: a successful sales position with Kraft Food Company, New York; an AA Counselor with an affiliate in Greensboro, NC, and his last employment position, a Postal Clerk at the US Postal Service in Winston-Salem.

As a strong advocate for black veterans, William spent many years helping black veterans secure the correct entitlement for their military benefits. In this new role, he educated and successfully secured thousands of dollars for veterans and their families. Strong relationships/bonds were created because of his dedication, tenacity and commitments.

William was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. Sole survivor of the six children in the Doretha and JC Moore family is Shirley Moore Lewis, Augusta, GA. Other survivors are his Goddaughter, Shonette (Eric) Howard and God-granddaughter, Madison Howard, Youngsville, NC; a devoted and loving Aunt, Eleanor Carr, Augusta; Special Nephews, Pastor Dwight Moore, Charlotte and Joseph H. Lewis, III, Jacksonville, FL; Special Niece, Kerri L. Moore, Charlotte; Sisters-in-law, Barbara Sherrill Moore, Salisbury, NC and Nan Moore, Cherry Hill, NJ; a devoted and loving friend, Robert (Bobby Lee, aka, “Little Brother”) Robinson; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and specials friends.

Lovingly submitted by the family.

Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, starting at 9 a.m., at Knox Grove Baptist Church, Cleveland, with Pastor Dwight Moore, Eulogist.

Committal will be at a later date at the Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC.
