Betty Reyburn Obituary

Betty Louise Reyburn

1932 - 2025

Betty Louise Reyburn was symbolic of love, loyalty, and grace. Born on May 5th, 1932, she was with us for 92 wonderful years, passing on to be with the Heavenly Father and her Husband Lee on February 1st, 2025, surrounded by close family members.

She was born in Maysville, Arkansas and was told that she was brought home in a shoe box. She lived in Jay, Oklahoma until the age of 12, later relocating to Tulsa. As migrant farm workers during the 1940's, they traveled extensively in a 1929 Ford Pickup from 1944 to 1947. They eventually settled in Seaside, California, where she started her Junior year at Monterey High School.

While working at the local movie theater with her sister Wanda, her sister met her future husband, Ed. Ed eventually encouraged his best friend, Lee, to date Betty. Lee was also in her High School class, where he called her the Teacher's Pet because she took roll call. She told him if he was late, she would mark him down as late, whereupon he threatened to dip her pig tails in the ink wells!

They started dating in 1951, with Lee going into Military Service in 1952. Always a hard worker, Betty had 3 jobs, working as a Safe Deposit Clerk for Bank of America, J. C. Penney in Payroll, and Carmel Hospital setting up trays, as well as working at a Laundry Mat. After they married in 1954, they eventually relocated to Santa Maria, California in 1960 where she stayed home to raise the 3 children. She once again went to work for Bank of America in 1969. She retired in 1990 as Branch Manager of Operations in Pismo Beach.

While at Grace Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, and years later was also involved with the "Keenagers" at the Church. Lee and Betty joined Crosspointe Church in 2015, and they remained active in their service to the Church.

Some of the family's favorite memories included having property at Running Deer Ranch at Lake Nacimiento, where we all enjoyed many family reunions, special times sitting around the campfire, fishing, boating, and Family BBQs! We also had evenings where we played Mexican Train with Betty officiating.

Betty and Lee enjoyed extensive traveling that included hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and spending the night there. They also traveled to Egypt, riding camels, and visiting the Holy Land.

Betty's life was an exhibition of her faith. As God's word says in Galatians 5...( vs.25) "...if we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit". (vs. 22)..." But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control:" against such things there is no law". Betty walked with the Spirit in a fallen world and now enjoys her walk in her perfect eternal home.

Betty is survived by her Son, Steve Reyburn of Santa Maria, Daughters Sheryl Holt (JC) of Temecula, and Brenda Martinez (Jim) of Santa Maria , as well as 8 Grandchildren, Heather, JC, Heidi, Janelle, Briana, Derek, Stevie, and Courtney, as well as 15 Great Grandchildren, Andrew, Kaia, Payton, Josie, Joseph, Jarrett, Sean, Rylinn, Caden, Deegan, Kaleb, Brynlee, Tatum, Harper, and Steel. Also, one Great Great-Grandchild, Huxley! She is also survived by her sister-in-law Nelma Wolford of Riverside, California, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Per her wishes, a private celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date.

Betty was our neighbor from across the street on South Thornburg. She was the nicest lady I ever met. I was just a young kid but it always amazed me how she always treated everyone she was around with a warm smile and pure kindness. As I got older it was always a pleasure to see her and Lee. Giving them both hugs and telling them how they we my favorite neighbors growing up.
