Paul Como Obituary

Paul L. Como
Born: May 25, 1954 in Sterling, IL
Died: July 25, 2025 in Dixon, IL
DIXON – Paul L. Como, age 71, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on Friday, July 25, 2025.
Paul was born on May 25, 1954, in Sterling, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Lois (Russell) Como. After graduating from Rock Falls High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1972 until his honorable discharge in 1975. During his service, he was stationed overseas in Okinawa and the Philippines. He also served in the Army Reserves for several years after returning home.
Paul married Nancy (Jones) Como on September 7, 1985. They were looking forward to celebrating 40 years of marriage this year. Paul loved his family and was a proud father to Jennifer and Michael.
He worked as a pressman at Dixon Direct for over 20 years, retiring in 2012. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 902 and a former member of the Who Else Club in Nelson.
In his younger years, Paul enjoyed camping, fishing, and riding his Harley. He took many memorable motorcycle trips with his dad and brothers. One of his favorite places to spend summer days was his spot along the river. Paul was also an avid poker player, often playing with coworkers and enjoyed countless games at his mother's kitchen table, joined by uncles, cousins, and nephews. A gifted storyteller, his tales will be missed by all who had the pleasure of hearing them.
Paul loved spending time with his family, especially in recent years with his two grandsons. He loved to laugh and had a quick wit – his sense of humor and the way he could make others laugh will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Jennifer Como; son, Michael (Ashley) Como; mother, Lois Como of Sterling; brothers, Arthur Como of Rock Falls and Tim Como of Phoenix; and two grandsons, Paul and Samuel Como.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Como; brother, Darrell Como; sister, Vicki Pratt; and nephew, Brett Como.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, at the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902, 712 4th Avenue, Rock Falls. Military honors will be held immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
