PEMBERVILLE -- Joseph W. Appelhans age 83, of Pemberville, OH passed away at Regency Hospital - Oregon on Sunday, July 6, 2025 with his family near his side. Joe was born on June 19, 1942 in Pemberville, OH to Joseph A. and Dorothy M. (Bressler) Appelhans, he later became a 1960 graduate of Eastwood High School. He married Jo A. Jacobs on July 20, 1963 in Luckey, OH at Zion United Methodist Church. Joe and Jo raised 4 children and have celebrated nearly 62 years of marriage together.
Joe worked first at Eisenhour Motors 11 years as a mechanic, then as a Police Officer for Pemberville Police Department, later retiring as Chief Deputy following 25 years with the Wood County Sheriff's Office. Joe had been the former First Assistant Fire Chief for the Pemberville Freedom Fire Department, Past President of the Pemberville Fair Board, a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife and family. Joe's greatest joy was in fact spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife Jo, Joe is survived by his children: Kathy Slaughterbeck of Fostoria, Joseph D. (Katty) Appelhans of Pemberville, Kent (Jennifer) Appelhans of Pemberville, and 9 Grandchildren. Brothers: Larry and Thomas Appelhans, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son; Kert Appelhans.
Family and friends will be received 4-7 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025 at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville, OH. A Funeral Service will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday, July 11, 2025 at Zion United Methodist Church 525 Krotzer Ave Luckey, OH, where there will be an additional time of visitation from 10 a.m., until time of service. officiating will be Pr. Leroy Sholey. Burial will be in Troy Township Cemetery Luckey, OH.
