Sally Kessel Obituary

Sally Kessel, 91, of Baldwin passed away peacefully on Thursday October 24th at Oakview Medical Care Facility where she resided since 2024.

Sally Ruth Rugh was born on June 12, 1934, in Springfield, Illinois to the late Glenn and Helen Rugh.

She married David Kessel in 1956, and they celebrated 46 years of marriage until Dave's passing in 2002. Sally and Dave raised four sons and owned and operated Dave's Sunoco/ Auto Parts. Together they served the community for 43 years.

Sally was a hard worker and had a heart of gold. She was known for her selflessness, generosity, quick wit and her good sense of humor. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and attending her four boys sporting events, where she was their greatest cheerleader. In her retirement years her days were not wasted. Always lending a helping hand to whomever needed it, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all benefited from her desire to "help out" in this way.

Sally is survived by her four sons, Brian (Kay), Kevin (DeLynn), Lyle (Dana) and Eugene (Abigail) Kessel. Grandchildren Brett (Christy), Matthew (Amanda), Cassidy, Miley, Sarah, Michael and Kolby Kessel and Alexandria (Gary) Cooper. Great grandchildren Shauna, Autumn, Kenzie, Levi, Chase, Drake, Nolan, Owen, Mya, Logan, Benjamin and Clifford. Her sister Bon (Alan) Cumberland, sisters in law Barb (Mike) Campos and Bonnie Rugh and brother-in-law Keith Teunis, as well as many nieces and nephew.

Sally is proceeded in Death by her parents Glen and Helen Rugh, Her husband David Kessel and sister Donna, brothers Cliff (Nan) and Doug Rugh. Sister in laws Joy (John) Siekirk, Rosie (Bill) Burke and Diane Teunis.

The family would like to thank Oakview Medical Care Facility, Baldwin Family Heath Care, Kristi Wilkinson and many families and friends who offered to spend time with Mom. Each hour you offered helped us keep her home longer and for that we are incredibly grateful. To the staff and administration of Sutter Living Center and Oakview Medical Care Facility the way you took amazing care of us Mom and genuinely loved her gave us great comfort and eased our hearts. For this blessing we are eternally grateful.

A visitation will take place on Thursday October 30th at Verdun Funeral Home in Baldwin from 5-8 with a time of prayer and tribute offered at 7 pm Please feel free to come and share a memory.
