James Moniaci Obituary

SIDNEY - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James J. Moniaci, age 70, who departed this life on July 12, 2025, after a long and courageous journey with mental illness.

Born on October 18 in Sidney, Ohio, Jim was a beloved son, brother, uncle, father, and grandfather. He was known for his quick wit, deep empathy, and his unique way of seeing the world. Though his life was marked by challenges, his spirit remained strong. He touched the lives of many with his honesty, resilience, and quiet strength.

Jim had a creative mind and a thoughtful heart. He found joy in caring for his horses and listening to the music of Neil Young, James Taylor, and other artists who gave voice to moments in his life. Despite the struggles he faced, Jim never stopped trying to connect, to grow, and to be understood.

He is survived by his father, Louis Moniaci; his son, Joe (and Megan); and his six grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Becky (Mike Schwaiger), Terri (Gary Roth), Carol (Kelly Foster), Tony (Mary Jo Johnson), and Sam (Debbie); as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Moniaci, and his former wife, Lorrie.

Our family finds comfort in knowing that Jim is finally at peace. Mental illness does not define a person's worth or the love they leave behind. Jim's life was meaningful, and he will be remembered for his courage, his complexity, and the quiet love he gave to those closest to him. And true to form, Jim always carried a comb in his pocket-never one to let a hair fall out of place.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Angels Church on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. and interment to follow at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to Mercy Mission House in Sidney, Ohio.

Rest in peace, Jim. You are loved-now and always.

I went to high school with Jim. I´ll always remember him as the guy who wasn´t afraid to look at things differently, a trait I admired. Condolences to Carol and the rest of Jim´s family.

My condolences to the family. While I didn't know Jim, I believe he went to Sidney High. I do know Joe, he and my son were friends at Anna School. I also knew Joe's mom. Sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss. Growing up as a kid we spent a lot of time at my grandma and grandpa Wicals house and we came over and played with your family a lot. So many good memories.
