Luella Karr

Luella Popken Karr, 98, of Ireton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.

She was born on July 18, 1926, rural Akron, Iowa to Otto and Emma Popken. She attended rural school near Craig, Iowa and graduated from Ireton High School. She married Kenyon Karr in December 1943. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Craig, Iowa for many years. She and Kenyon farmed near Ireton, Iowa for 60 years where she was very actively involved in the farm work. They later retired into Ireton.

She was an avid walker, which she continued to do nearly every day during her many years at Hillcrest.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenyon; a daughter, Rhonda Wilkie; a son, Terry Karr; and a grandson, Landon Karr.

Her survivors include Drenda (Lamont) Onken, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; Sharyl (Stephen) Hanna, Mount Prospect, Ill.; and Rodney (Linda) Karr, Omaha, Neb.; son-in-law, Larry Wilkie; seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Her memorial service will be on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton, Iowa. There will be a gathering of family and friends following, also at the funeral home.
