MELISSA MEYER Obituary

MELISSA RAE (SCHWEIZER) MEYER Melissa Rae (Schweizer) Meyer, Missi to those who knew her best, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, S.D., after an 11 year battle with multiple sclerosis. Visitation was on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye Chapel with the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and Parish Prayers at 3:45 p.m. prior to the visitation. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye - North Entrance. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com. Melissa was born on March 17, 1971, in Spencer, Iowa, to Michael and Mary Ann (Crowell) Schweizer. She attended Bishop Garrigan in Algona then graduated from Newman Catholic School in Mason City in 1989. She attended NIACC, graduating from Buena Vista University in 1993. She was an excellent student and enjoyed all things music related. She was a gifted piano player and had a beautiful singing voice. Missi met Ernie Meyer while both were working at Fleet in Algona during high school and a 34 year marriage followed. They were married at St. Joe Catholic Church in Mason City on June 23, 1990. Missi grew up camping and continued that with her own family. She loved being at the lake, sitting outside reading a book, and especially being out on the pontoon. When she wasn't reading, she was busy on her many devices, always using the newest technology and giving her family something to tease her about! She loved to laugh and joke, and constantly shared her humor with those around her. Missi spent most of her career working for the City of Redwood Falls as the finance director. She retired in 2021. Her family was her greatest joy. She attended every activity, the loudest in the stands. She instilled in them her deep faith and an immense capacity for love. While her kids were always a light in her life, her grandchildren brought her an unmatched joy. She was blessed to be able to meet Rory, Ada, Riley and Wesley. She loved spending time with them. While we wish she had more time with them, we know that Rory Melissa and Ada Rae will make certain Grandma Missi's legacy lives on and that Riley and Wesley will know who she was. Missi is survived by her husband Ernie, her children Dillan (Kahley) Meyer, Devyn (Duane) Christians, and Dalton Meyer, her grandchildren Rory and Riley Christians and another due in July, and Ada and Wesley Meyer, her parents, Michael and Mary Ann Schweizer, in-laws, Bob and Mary Jo Meyer, siblings, Macey (Jerry) Cannon and Matt (Jennifer) Schweizer and brother-in-law Robb Meyer, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
