Robert Boyle Obituary

Robert "Bob" Boyle, a beloved member of the Burlingame community, passed away on January 2, 2025. Bob was known for his generous spirit, his quick wit, and his unwavering dedication to his family and friends.

Born on June 4, 1944, in Belfast Northern Ireland, Bob lived a full and fulfilling life. He served his country with honor in the United States Army in the Vietnam War before joining the Burlingame Police Department, where he served his community for thirty years. Bob was a pillar of strength and support for those around him, always ready with a kind word, a hillarious joke, or a helping hand.
In his free time, Bob enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and working on DIY projects around his home. He was a master craftsman, creating beautiful clocks and redwood burl tables that will be cherished for generations to come. Bob's love for the outdoors led him on many day trips to the coast, camping and fishing trips, creating lasting memories with his loved ones.

Bob has now joined in passing with loving wife Sheila, his sister Gemma, his brothers Peter and Patrick. He is survived by his son, Brendan Boyle, his stepdaughter Leisa Allen, beloved grandchildren, Jonathan Dierkes, Nicholas Dierkes, and Madeline Boyle, and his Brother James Boyle.

A rosary will be held on Thursday January 9, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at Crosby-N. Gray & Co. Funeral Home, 2 Park Road, Burlingame. A funeral mass for Bob's life will be celebrated on Friday January 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Church in Burlingame. For those who wish to honor Bob's memory, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held to share stories and memories of Bob's life.

Bob Boyle will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace.

To The Boyle Family,

I met Bob in 1985 when I went to work at the Burlingame Police Department. Bob was curious to talk with me about my Irish Family heritage. I remember that my mother wrote him a letter, outlining where her people were from in Ireland. Bob was excited to learn my Irish grandfather Mike Gaffey, was police chief in San Francisco in the 1950´s.

Later I worked with Bob as a fellow policeman. Bob was always with a joke, laughing at his own material, and entertaining the station house.

He always had a hairbrush and would ask anyone near, "hey how´s my hair look?" Friday mornings at the Sheraton Hotel for a cut by his brother Pat.

A few drinks with Bob at Behans after shift. He was off to home after " the final, final, final."

Brendan we loved your Dad. He was a good man, a good cop, and lots of fun to be around. He will be missed.

Always with a smile on his face, Bob was a "Old School People´s Cop" for the City of Burlingame.

Outgoing and gregarious, with a wonderful sense of humor, we who served with him were honored and blessed by his presence; and he will be deeply missed.

"Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called children of God". Thank you for your service and support of your community, it´s citizens and your fellow officers.

I speak not only for myself but many others when I say that we will never see the likes of Bobby Boyle again! There are fellow Irishmen whom I really admire, respect, and look up to in a lot of ways but at the very top of that list is Bobby Boyle. A trusted police officer who was a frequent visitor to our Irish store ( Four Green Fields ) on Burlingame Ave. His presence left an indelible mark on those he met (on the beat and off the beat) and many lives are richer because of it. A man of great patience, integrity, and compassion. A fine man, one of natures gentlemen. When I was young I used to admire clever people but the older I get I admire kind people. None kinder than Bobby Boyle. As far as I am concerned there are never to many tributes to a great humanitarian like Bobby Boyle. He was tolerant, modest, and always had an abundance of good humor that everyone who encountered him delighted in. His unassuming humility and loyalty to his family and friends was such that we will never see the likes of him again.

With sincere condolences to Brendan, Leisa and all Bobby´s family, both in Ireland and the entire Bay Area.

Sincere condolences,
Eileen and Martin Rooney

Bob was truly one of the kindest officers and human beings anyone could have been fortunate enough to meet, know or work with. He was a gentle giant who always had a kind word or funny story to share. If you were lucky enough to know Bob, your life was certainly better for the same. We'll miss you greatly, Bob!
