Dana CAMPANA Obituary

Dana Joseph Campana passed away in Spokane, WA, on April 27, 2023, after a brief illness; he was 73. Dana grew up in Lafayette, CA, and spent many years working at his family's business, Campana Music. During the early 1970s, he answered the call and joined the United States Navy, serving as an aircraft mechanic in California. After his service, he moved to Spokane to continue his education and start a family. He tried his hand at many ventures which took him back and forth between Washington and California. Upon retiring, Dana returned to Spokane to enjoy time with his extended family.

Dana will always be remembered by his family and friends for his generous spirit, a trait he attributed fondly to his mother, as well as his passion for cars, the ocean, music, and painting. Over the years, he bonded with his sons over vehicles and loved spending his free time on car restoration. He often wished he had studied marine biology, spending his younger days surfing in California, traveling to family reunions on the sunny shores of Oahu, and later making road trips to the Oregon coast. Most recently, he resided at Touchmark in Spokane, where he regularly attended concerts and shared his painting skills. Throughout his life, he demonstrated an amazing ability to connect with people, from family members to casual acquaintances, who quickly became close friends.

Dana was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Fannie Campana; as well as his sister, Mari Kolb. He is survived by his two sons, Justin and Dustin Campana, and their families; his brother-in-law, Chuck Kolb; longtime friend, John Kreis; as well as countless friends across the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.

Per Dana's wishes, there will be no formal service.

Dana and I were classmates in Lafayette elementary school from Kindergarten to the 4th grade when I moved to Nevada County in 1960. He was my boyfriend. His birthday was the day before mine so we alternately celebrated at each other's house. We saw each other once after we graduated and went skiing in the Sierras after he was discharged from the service. We lost touch after that. I was sorry to hear of his passing, he was a sweet person and I extend my sympathy to his family.

Rest in peace dana, I'm saddened by this news, however I will remember how your face lit up and your smile grew when you would tell stories about riding dirt bikes in the hills of California,,and also talking of cars and trucks he had in the past.. and although I only knew dana for 10-12 years it was a absolute great time visiting with him when he lived in Kenmore wa. May your soul be at peace my friend. And my condolences to his sons and all his family and friends.

Dana was my boyfriend from Kindergarten to 4th grade, his birthday was 12/10 and mind 12/11 so we celebrated them together. I moved out of Lafayette in 1959-60 and we met up again some years later and went skiing in the foothills. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I think John was also in a couple grades with us. I remember him fondly.

Such a good friend in high school. Shenanigan central! Enjoyed time together even after he entered the military. I didn´t see him for years as I moved from California, and then one day, we ran into each other at the Albertsons grocery store in Spokane! Such a surprise. Unfortunately we did not stay in touch but just about two months ago I emailed him through classmates and got no answer. I´m so sorry to hear about his passing. Lots of fun memories with him. My condolences to his family. He was one of the good ones.
