William Guth Obituary

William Howard Guth, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2025, in Ames, Iowa. Born April 1, 1955, in Baltimore, MD, he grew up on Maryland's Eastern Shore. He taught earth science and went on to serve as the principal at several middle and high schools throughout Maryland and West Virginia, touching the lives of countless students and colleagues. For 24 years, he was married to Linda (Smith) Guth, with whom he had two children, Ryan and Lindsay. Sadly, Linda died from cancer in 2002.

Howard married Ann Oberhauser in 2007 and moved to Ames, Iowa in 2015. Howard will be remembered as a kind, generous man who never shied away from hard work. He often lent a helping hand to neighbors and family.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 13th at 2:00 p.m. in the Campanile Room of the Iowa State University Memorial Union in Ames, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Howard's name to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Food Bank of Iowa, Reiman Gardens (ISU Foundation), or an organization of your choice.
