Gregg North

July 27, 1952 - January 5, 2025

On January 5, 2025, Gregg North died unexpectedly at the family's farm in Rixeyville, VA. He was born on July 27, 1952, in Salt Lake City, to Dean B. North and Margaret LaVon Ward North.

As the son of a naval officer, Gregg traveled the world, attending 18 different schools before graduating from Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach, VA. He graduated with a BS degree from George Mason University. He retired as the director of data management, mammalian toxicology division, at BioReliance after a 27-year career. His lifelong interests included fishing and the care and keeping of a menagerie including livestock, poultry, pigeons, exotic birds, tropical fish, and reptiles. He was a renowned published herpetologist recognized for his success in breeding beaded lizards. He advised Smithsonian zoologists on their animal husbandry. He found great joy in spending time with family and friends canoeing on the Hazel and Thornton rivers and fishing on the "Magic Pond."

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Michelle Hackley North; daughter, Erin Cameron Bishop (Jeremiah) of Harrisonburg, VA; son, Joshua Ward North of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren, Conrad Thornton and Beatrix Eleanor Bishop of Harrisonburg; brother, Brad North (Julie) of Sacramento, CA; brother-in-law, Robert Davis of Philadelphia; nephews and nieces, Robert and John Davis (Rebekah), Israel, Hillary and Tiffany North; and stepmother, Patricia North of Warrenton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the historic Little Fork Church, 16461 Oak Shade Road, Rixeyville, VA. A time of fellowship will follow. Private burial will take place at a later date at the family cemetery in Oak Shade, Rixeyville, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support the development of a one-mile walking trail on the historic grounds of Little Fork Church, adjacent to the family's farm. When completed in the coming year, the trail will become a feature of the publicly accessible park. Contributions can be mailed to Little Fork Church, Gregg North Memorial Fund, P.O.
