Redmond - With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sara Lorraine Wheatley-Lasater, a beacon of love, laughter, and adventure, who left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her.

Born on December 5, 1940, in Commerce, Texas, Sara lived a life that sparkled with purpose, passion, and joy. She was a proud graduate of Commerce High School, where she served as Drum Major of the Marching Band. Sara continued her education at East Texas State University on a music scholarship, graduating with a teaching degree in 1961. She later earned her master's degree in School Management in 1973.

Sara met the love of her life, John B. Lasater Sr., while at East Texas State, and they married in 1959. Together, they had three children: John Lasater Jr., Liz Lasater, and Matt Lasater. Sara devoted her life to education, inspiring students, teachers, and families as an elementary school music teacher, kindergarten teacher, and Elementary School Principal in Ft. Bend County, Texas.

Beyond her remarkable career, Sara was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, serving as president of the Houston City Council. She loved connecting with others and building community. In retirement, Sara and John traveled the world together, exploring all seven continents where they created beautiful memories through their adventures. One of their most memorable journeys was a six-week African odyssey, which included Tanzania, Kenya, Victoria Falls in Eswatini, the Okavango Delta in Botswana, and a day on the beach in Dubai.

Sara lived life to the fullest, embracing every adventure and cherishing time with her family. She was most proud of her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her universe, and she loved every moment spent with them.

Sara Lorraine Wheatley-Lasater passed away on September 15, 2025, in Seattle, Washington, surrounded by the love and memories of a lifetime well-lived. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John B. Lasater; her children, John Jr., Liz, and Matt; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine and Dee Wheatley II; her sister, Mary Randall Kerr; and her brother, Dr. Dee Wheatley III, PhD. Sara will be laid to rest at Lake Creek Cemetery in Wichita Falls, Texas.
