Charles Redmond Obituary

Charles Edgar Redmond

April 1, 1942 - May 7, 2025

Charles Edgar Redmond, age 83, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

Chuck was born in Norfolk, Va on April 1, 1942 to Bill Redmond and Christine Redmond. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Grace Hill Redmond. Daughters, Sharon Houck (Dan), Melanie J. Christensen and Beth Laverty (Bill) and 8 grandchildren.

Chuck grew up Charlotte, Salisbury and Winston Salem, North Carolina, a proud graduate of Northwest High School. After serving in the Navy for two years he followed his dream of flying. Chuck's family was the only thing he loved more than aviation. His career as a corporate pilot took him coast to coast. He never met a stranger due to his friendly personality.

After retiring from flying with over 16,000 hours and an exemplary safety record, he taught recurrent flying classes at Fly Right. A second career he loved. Also, as a member of a local model train club he spent many hours with a hobby he enjoyed.

Chuck will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 2:00 p.m. at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 10500 Beatties Ford Rd., Huntersville, NC 28078. Officiated by Rev. Sarah Scoggin.

I was introduced to Charles "Chuck" Redmond in late January of 2016 when I attended a model train club. As a ranking member, Chuck seconded my membership. This is when getting to know Chuck started. He had a very friendly and jovial personality. I loved listening to his stories and adventures. He had a lot of authentic knowledge about trains and instilled in me a need to pay attention to modeling details. He also shared with me his love of flying through his stories and even through a personally guided tour at the flight simulator building where he either taught or tested. Chuck was a friendly person and he will be missed and remembered. My condolences to his wonderful and patient wife Grace and to his surviving relatives.

What a "hoot" it was to have
"Butch" as a friend in high school. We have remained close friends especially since our 50th year class reunion. We will really miss his presence at our monthly high school luncheons. Such laughter we have shared!

Chuck was a class act; always smiling, the life of the party, with never a harsh word to say about anyone. He was the consummate aviator, yes an aviator, not a mere pilot. Blue skies and tailwinds my friend.

I met Chuck through aviation. We both had a passion for flying. We became friends belonging to Quiet Birdmen, Charlotte Hangar. We made several trips together going to Oshkosh, WI for the EAA World Convention, Chuck was always "The life of the party". I´ll miss you brother Chuck.
