Elbert White Obituary

Elbert "Dutch" White made his final purchase on May 6th at 95 years old. Dutch was born at home in South Onondaga on April 22, 1930. He lived a very full life, retiring from Saunder's Concrete after 32 years. Dutch referred to himself as a mixer technician but we have no concrete evidence of that. He traveled between winters in Florida and summers at his camp on Black Lake. Dutch enjoyed buying and tinkering with his old cars, watching NASCAR, telling jokes (of all varieties) and his sarsaparillas. He is famous for his hats, t-shirts and Dutch-afying everything he owned. In his younger years, he proudly served in the US Navy.

Dutch was predeceased by his parents Elbert and Estella Mason White. He is survived by his three children, Jay (Lisa), Theresa (Mark) Fenner and Lynn (Louis) Rotunno; a brother Donald; grandchildren, Hayley, Amber, Holden, Tabitha, Brandon, Alexander and Justine, along with 10 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Monday, May 12th from 4 to 7pm at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 E. Main Street, Marcellus. A graveside service will be held the next morning, Tuesday at 11am in South Onondaga Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Terry, Jay and Lynn. Your family has always been my family. Your Mom and Dad were always so good to me and I loved them both, as I love you three. When I lived in South Onondaga raising babies, your family became mine too. You were young and always loved to play with our little ones. Jennifer gave Jay a black eye...I was potty training Darren and your Dad came up to visit and my son was naked, your Dad told me to get a diaper on him. He always had a word of advice for me, some good and some, well different. He had a good heart, always had a joke and would help anyone. He will be missed by so many. Love you all.

Dutch was the best damn neighbor we could have ever had. His wisdom, stories, jokes and true friendship will stay with us forever. He was one of a kind and we will truly miss him. No more old cars on the lawn and toddys in a sippy cup. Camp life won´t be the same without him. Much love to all his family. Jeff and Chris ( aka the lawn ranger)

To the man that raised me since I was a little boy, you'll never know how grateful I am. You did more for me than you knew. I'll never forget all the time we spent together, and I wouldn't change any of it. At the time, I didn't know that you where teaching me to be a man, but now I do. I thank you for everything you've ever done for me. Tell those jokes, and drink those screwdrivers. Till we meet again...

I have nothing but happy memories of Dutch. Either at the local watering holes or Black Lake. He always had a story to tell that you had to laugh at. He was a legend in his own time. God Bless you Dutch.

When I was little he was Mr. White. And back then I heard the nickname Sonny. That´s the name I used. Sonny helped his neighbors. My first memory is during the Blizzard of `66 he was one of the people who got into a store to get everyone what they needed. There is a lifetime of stories of this wonderful man. His family and friends will have a large hole in their life, but he´s going to be meeting up with a lot of great people in heaven.
Lynn, Jay, Terry prayers to you and the rest of the family. Share your memories good & not so good. It helps your grieving. Love to you all, Susie
