Mary Hill Obituary

Hill, Mary Ann

87, died Dec. 21, 2025, at her home in Tampa. She was born Feb. 6, 1938, the oldest of seven children to Frank and Mary Moore. She grew up in Seminole Heights and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and the Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans. Back home in Tampa, she began her nursing career at Tampa General Hospital, married John R. Hill and raised four children in Temple Terrace. Mary Ann later earned her bachelor's degree in psychology at St. Leo University and worked at Travelers Insurance and Conservco before joining friends in starting their own successful statewide workers compensation business. Mary Ann could start a conversation with anyone, had a multitude of lifelong friends, and traveled with her hiking buddies, the YaYas, to Italy, Ireland, Austria and more. Nothing meant more to her than family, which gathered every summer for a reunion on Anna Maria Island. She loved the beach, could make anything grow in her backyard, kept the songbirds fed and raised butterflies with her grandchildren. Mary Ann put in many hours as a volunteer at grandson Evan's school, at Hospice and at Moffitt Cancer Center. She was known for her homemade rolls at Christmas and Thanksgiving, buttermilk banana bread and the spinach balls that required a second freezer. She lived a life filled with laughter, family and friends, and her strength and humor will stay with everyone who loved her. Preceded in death by her brother Paul Moore, Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Trish (Joe); sons, John (Sue Carlton) and Jim (Linda); and daughter, Laura (Todd); sister, Nancy Balash and brother-in-law, Chuck Balash; brothers, Frank Moore, Joe Moore (Shirley), Howard Moore (Teri) and Jim Moore (Sandy); grandchildren, Daniel, Meghan, Jessica, Peyton and Evan; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their children. If you'd like to do something in her memory, be kind to someone you love, or better yet a stranger.

Mary Ann and I, along with a host of others, were classmates from 1st through 12th grades at SHA. For all of her life experiences, professional and otherwise, she never changed. She was always a jokester and ALWAYS there when anyone was in need of help. We still can't come to grips that we can't dial her phone number and she will answer.
She has been a role model through thick and thin for all of us. RIP, Mary Ann, and put in a good word for us when given the opportunity!
