I read with great sadness about the passing of Edward Martinez.
Let me begin by introducing myself. I am Rudolph Vigil, the son of Marshall and Andrea Vigil.
I grew up next door to the Martinez family. I was known, at that time, as Butch. And I knew both Edward and Emilio as Nicky and Mickey. Glad to know we outgrew our childhood nicknames.
Edward was my best friend. We spent as much time together as we could. Family obligations took precedence over play time.
He was a true and loyal friend. My constant companion through thick and thin. I knew I could always count on him to be there for me.
I "adopted" him as my brother (as I had none and I figured that his twin wouldn't mind). Emilio, I hope that you didn't.
Time and circumstances called us to venture out on our individual paths. I left Taos shortly after high school graduation returning only for an occasional family visit. Edward had a much strong connection to his family and the land he dearly loved. His roots ran deeper than those of the giant cherry trees that grew in the front yard and stronger than the roots of the apple trees in the orchard in back of the house.
I will always fondly remember him and cherish the times we spent growing up. I admire, to this day, his strength, perseverance and hard work. I regret not spending more time with him. But I have my memories of him.
To his family, both my wife Candy and I offer our heartfelt and sincerest condolences. May you all find comfort your memories of him and peace in God's love.
With Love and Respect
