George Carter Obituary

George William Carter, 93, was called home on January 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family while residing in Fort Wayne, Indiana. George was born on October 7, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Charles and Jeanette Carter. He met Sandra Marlene Reynolds in Springfield, Illinois. The two married in 1954. They were together 51 years when she went to be with the Lord in 2005. George was a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving 4 years, during which time he gave his life to the Lord and was forever a changed man. Following his walk with the Lord and his desire to know him greater he enrolled and graduated from seminary at Southwestern Bible. George lived life passionately following that path. This truth was evident in all the years he spent teaching, preaching, and counseling. Also, in his years of devotion to the Prison Ministry that he served in both Maryland and Florida. One of George’s greatest accomplishments was the publishing of his books, Book of Psalms the Devotional volume 1 and 2 which were near and dear to his heart.

He retired at 74 from WC Smith in Washington D.C. George was a kind, gentle man who had a witty personality and loved being around others. He had a passion for books and loved to study the bible. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, if you were to ask him though he would say “I’m not very good, I need more practice,” which he did to the very end. He was a fountain of biblical knowledge which he freely shared. He was the go-to guy for any answers about the word of God and there were numerous questions and answers over many years. A great deal of people were very grateful for his wisdom and knowledge. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed. I’m sure he heard the words “Well done my good and faithful servant” from his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He is survived by their 5 children David (Karen) Carter, Colleen Ussery, Carol (Rick) Vasquez, Christine Koska, Daniel (Amy) Carter, 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and his brother Robert Carter. George was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, and his wife.
